Diabetes Mellitus, a metabolic syndrome is not new in 21st century but it was widely known problem since
1000 BC and evidence are quite obvious in Ayurveda through its dictation. In 21st century there are many
modern medicines are available but peoples are showing their interest for natural and herbal formulation in
comparison to synthetic medicine due to probable long-term harmful effect. Here, author has selected
Talapotaka Churna, a compound herbal Ayurvedic formulation mentioned in Prameha RogaPrakarana in the
text Vaidya Chintamani for the study. In this scientific era there is a need to validate and standardize the
Ayurvedic formulation. So formulation was studied under Fourier transform Infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy for
relevant functional group of phytoconstituents present in sample. This study also helpful for projecting a
standard spectrum of ingredients and Talapotaka Churna to minimize batch to batch variation. These
spectrums will be helpful in choosing the accurate raw material by scanning raw material and comparing it
with these spectrums.
