Abstract

Background: This study examined the impact of a novel herbal formulation (Gou Graas) on milk fat content, milk output, and body weight in nursing dairy cows. Materials and Methods: Nine healthy dairy cows (Indian Gir) were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups in a controlled study. Over the course of 8 weeks, the treatment group was given an herbal formulation (100g & 250g/Day/Head) combined with feed, whereas the normal control group was fed a regular meal. At beginning and at regular intervals during the experiment, key characteristics such as body weight, milk fat percentage, and daily milk output were recorded in winter and summer season. Results: In comparison to summer season, in winter season there is 2.206% average fat increase in treated control group-III (250g/day/head) and 1.034% average fat increase in treated control group-II (100g/day/head) after 8 weeks trial. In comparison to summer season, in winter season there is 0.433 litre average milk yield in treated control group-III and -0.133 litre average milk yield in treated control group-II after 8 weeks trial. Results revealed that cows produce more milk with improving fat in both seasons. If we compare body weight of cows after 8-week treatments in winter season. Normal control group-I (No dose) doesn't show any significant improvement, but treated control group-II showed average 8 kg and treated control group-III showed average 15 kg per cow weight gain. We also found similar results in summer season in dose dependent manner. Conclusion: Comparing the treated group to the controls, the results showed a statistically significant increase in both milk output, milk fat content and body weight. These results imply that the herbal formulation may be used as a natural feed supplement to improve dairy cow’s general health and lactational performance.
